馬刺本季例行賽62勝20負穩居全聯盟龍頭，以「養生籃球」聞名的帕波維奇，也再次榮膺「年度最佳總教練」，軍校出身的帕總繼2003年、12年後生涯第3度獲獎，與「油頭」萊利、「鬼才」尼爾森等齊名，這位冷面笑匠領獎時還自嘲：「獎座全掛車上，就是球員們放駕照的地方。」

帕波維奇不迷信球星，強調團隊至上，執掌馬刺兵符長達18年，已連15季至少50勝，且4度率黑衫軍奪得總冠軍，如今也是封王大熱門，而上季爭霸不敵熱火衛冕軍，更令好強如帕總矢志雪恥，「我們輸得不尋常，甚至相當難堪，但沒什麼好抱怨的，只能拋開過去重新開始。我為球員們的成熟和努力深感驕傲，獎項該歸功於大家。」
