雅虎體育披露，與邁阿密熱火還有2年4270萬美元合約的詹姆斯，已告知球團將行使「逃脫條款」成為自由球員，有媒體搞笑分析，正在巴西領軍參加世界盃的美國隊總教練克林斯曼應立刻徵召他參加Ｇ組最後1場對德國，讓他在禁區發揮203公分、120公斤、可跳1公尺高的體型優勢。

美國足協順應輿情，在官方推特上幽默回應：「嘿，詹姆斯，聽說你跳脫合約了？我們幫你找了支新球隊：美國足球國家隊，來吧！」還煞有介事地公布繡著他名字的6號球衣，這當然是合成圖，目前穿6號的是21歲後衛布魯克斯。（記者徐正揚）
